Activating your card
What you design on the create-a-card page is a draft: you can preview it, but it shows a “Preview — not activated” mark and cannot save the contact, call or share.
- Show your draft code to a Veluna stand team member.
- Pay once at the stand.
- The team member activates your card (issuing a digital activation certificate), programs the NFC chip, and hands you your short link and your private edit link.
Does activation store my data with you?
We cannot read your data: we keep an encrypted copy only, to serve your short link. Its key lives in your link alone, and you can delete it any time. When your card is opened, the browser requests this encrypted copy by its short ID; we do not log that. Details in Privacy.
I want to change my details — do I need a new activation?
No. Open your private edit link, change whatever you like and save — free and instant. Only a change of name goes through the stand.
A card marked “Sample card”?
These are demonstration cards the Veluna stand shows at events, with fictional names and numbers. The mark is part of their signed activation certificate and never appears on customer cards.
I sent my draft link to someone and it showed “not activated”
That is expected. Share the activated link you received from the stand, or tap your NFC card.
The short link
On activation you get a short link such as c.velunapress.com/s/Ab12Cd34#… — easy to share. We keep an encrypted copy only of your card, which we cannot read: the key to decrypt it is the part after # in your own link, and it never reaches our servers.
If your chip carries the full card, it works without our servers, even if the encrypted copy is deleted or our service stops. If it carries your short link (when the full card does not fit on a Classic chip), it needs our service to work.
Edit your card yourself — free
On activation you receive a private edit link. Open it whenever you like to change your job title, company name, logo, photo, numbers, links, template and background — editing is free, instant and needs nobody’s approval. Your short link does not change, so everyone who has your card sees the new version.
- Your name is locked to protect your card from being passed to someone else; to change it, contact the Veluna stand.
- Do not share your edit link; whoever has it can edit your card. If you lose it or share it by mistake, the stand issues you a new one free of charge, in person with your card and after verifying your identity, and the old one stops working immediately.
- Keep the link somewhere private; it also stays in the browser history of the device you opened it on. You can save up to 30 times a day per card.
- The NFC chip shows the latest version when online, and the copy stored on it when offline.
Delete my short-link card
Open your edit link → “Delete my card” → type DELETE to confirm. The encrypted copy is permanently deleted from our servers, and the short link and edit link stop working. A chip carrying the full card keeps showing its copy; a chip carrying the short link stops working. Lost your edit link? A stand team member can delete it for you.
Sharing your card
- By tap: hold your card near the top back of the other person’s phone (iPhone XS or later, and most Android phones once NFC is on).
- By code: open your card and tap “QR code”, or flip the card, so the other person can scan it with their camera.
- By link: tap “Share”, or type the person’s number in “Send this card to a WhatsApp number”.
Saving the contact
- iPhone: tap “Save contact”, then “Create New Contact”.
- Android: tap “Save contact”, then open the downloaded file and choose your Contacts app.
- If the card opened inside Instagram or Snapchat, open it in your browser (Safari or Chrome) first.
Updating your details
Open your private edit link, change whatever you like, then “Save changes”. Your short link and chip show the new version automatically (the chip when online). People who saved your contact earlier keep their copy.
Frequently asked questions
Does the card need an app?
No. It opens straight in the browser, and the other person needs no app either.
Does it work offline?
The chip carries the link without internet, but showing the card needs a connection to load the public page.
Is the card affected by water or magnets?
The chip withstands everyday use. Avoid bending it, or keeping it against another NFC card or a metal surface when tapping.
Can someone change what is on my card?
An unlocked chip can be rewritten with NFC apps. We can lock it for you if you wish (a permanent lock); note that any later update then needs a new chip.
